THE EDIT is the first thing you’ll see when you enter the RDS for Showcase 2024. It’s our curation of many of the most beautiful and exciting products at the show. With sustainability a huge trend for consumers, this year we place an even greater emphasis on the natural, the handmade and the local with lots of gorgeous products by companies that have a focus on sustainable materials and on protecting the environment. THE EDIT is a selection of good goods by great people. Here are just a few to whet your appetite.
Stories by Ola
Based in the seaside town of Balbriggan, Co. Dublin, and with a studio in the iconic Ardgillan Castle, Ola Wartak-Tolak makes beautiful ‘perfectly imperfect’ ceramics inspired by the Irish coastline. Her Coastline Plates range has been included in THE EDIT - beautiful designs that echo waves crashing on the beach. Each piece in the collection is handmade from high-quality speckled stoneware and glazed in a mixture of glazes to create a realistic wave effect. The intricate details and glaze work make each plate truly special and unique with added depth and dimension in the design.

Natures Alchemy
Inspired by her own skincare needs, founder of Natures Alchemy, Lynn Shead, creates small batch skincare products designed for sensitive skin. Her natural deodorants form part of THE EDIT - an organic product made from high quality, natural ingredients that is free from harmful chemicals such as aluminium, parabens and phthalates. The organic coconut oil, shea butter and apricot kernel oil in the deodorant have not been chosen for their skin-loving properties alone but also because they have been sourced ethically and sustainably making this a product that contributes positively to the user’s wellbeing as well as to the planet.

badly made books
With a tagline that reads ‘badly made books...are rubbish’ we love this Cork city business that makes understated sustainable stationery from recycled paper. Their Book Stick has been selected for THE EDIT. The design uses recycled scrap wood and recycled paper to create a new version of a notebook that allows its user to rearrange the pages and refill the book once they have used up all the sheets. With the rise in demand for sustainable goods from consumers, this is a gorgeous handmade product that’s a real conversation starter.

Silvia Ortega
Fashion designer Silvia Ortega is inspired by culture, art and nature. Her designs fuse elements from Ireland with those of her native Spain to create a distinctive style.The use of historic Irish wool with the lace of the traditional Spanish mantilla reflects the richness and diversity of Ireland’s contemporary design landscape. Her Donegal Herringbone Wool Coat has been selected for THE EDIT. Working with only the best mills in Ireland and Europe, this straight, long coat is made in luxurious heavyweight white and black herringbone wool from Donegal. It features a high neck, side slits and a chunky belt and is finished with side pockets and a front closure detailed with old silver metallic buttons.

Conscious Convert
Founder of Conscious Convert, Zelia Madigan's beautiful new UnDyed Collection has been selected for THE EDIT. Made from 300 thread count percale, this beautiful natural bedlinen is kind to people and the environment but also extremely luxurious and guaranteed to create a feelgood sanctuary in any home. This new collection is made of undyed, GOTs certified cotton which is free from toxins, dyes and other harmful chemicals.

Karena Ryan
Former P.E. teacher Karena Ryan is now a sustainable textile artist who combines hand embroidery, free motion stitching and beading in her highly tactile artwork drawing inspiration from literature, ancestry and the memories held within the landscape. Her Galway Wool Lamp has been selected for THE EDIT. The table lamp is handmade using the wet felting method and is infused with essential oils, rose petals, marigolds, merino wool and silk fibres. Like her other products at this year’s Showcase this piece has been made with Galway wool from a local, native Irish sheep. With no air miles, and wool’s biodegradability and ability to sequester carbon, this is a considered and eco-friendly piece for the home.

Lynsey de Burca
Lynsey de Burca is an award-winning jewellery designer based in Connemara on the Wild Way. Her Dochas Triple Neck Piece features in THE EDIT - a sterling silver curved disc pendant which is beautifully etched with a tidal pattern on the front and engraved with a power word on the back. A tactile pendant, this piece was created to be held and touched - thus offering a sensory experience for the wearer.

Jennifer Rothwell
Renowned for her striking colourful prints award-winning fashion designer Jennifer Rothwell digitally prints her designs in Ireland. Rothwell’s Our Lady’s Scarf has been chosen for THE EDIT and is inspired by the stained glass window depicting the Virgin Mary at St. Manchan's Church in Boher, Co. Offaly which is accredited to acclaimed Irish stained glass artist Harry Clarke. Rothwerll is dedicated to celebrating and uplifting Ireland’s artists, legends, folklore and traditions in a contemporary way through her range of clothing and accessories.
